UFC Strike NFTs Explained for Beginners

Welcome to UFC Strike, a platform to buy, sell and collect your favorite UFC fighter’s biggest highlights inside the octagon. UFC Strike is the officially licensed platform for UFC NFTs, created by Dapper Labs, the creators of NBA Top Shot.

From slick submissions to thunderous knockouts, UFC Strike aims to immortalize the moments that have shaped the sport. If you’re just getting started with UFC NFTs, or just saw a UFC Strike ad during a UFC event, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll explain UFC Strike Moments, packs, and the marketplace!

Let’s jump into the octagon.

What is a UFC Strike Moment?

Strike Moments are video NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) that live on the Flow blockchain. They are tradeable digital collectables of UFC highlights, to put it simply.

Each Moment is identified by the name of the fighter featured in the video, the name of the event it occurred at (i.e. UFC 270), and the summary of what happens in the moment (i.e.KO, Submission, Striking). Each Moment is given a serial number, differentiating it from every other Moment — there can only be one #1 Moment of this Francis Ngannou knockout.

The Moments contain the live commentary from the announcers like Joe Rogan, adding even more hype and excitement. The commentary is a crucial addition that really elevates the product and sets it apart from NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day Moments.

UFC Strike Rarity and Edition Sizes

There are five different rarities for UFC Strike, each with a different edition size or maximum mint count:

  • Fandom: Uncapped
  • Contender: 10,000 to 25,000
  • Challenger: 250 to 999
  • Champion: 25 to 99
  • Ultimate: 1 to 10

Compared to NBA Top Shot, Contender would be comparable to “Common”, Challenger would be the “Rare” tier and Champion would be the “Legendary” tier. There was no Challenger or Ultimate Moments minted in Series 0, but they’re coming soon, including Conor McGregor’s UFC Strike debut as a Challenger Moment

UFC Strike Pack

UFC Strike Pack Drops

The best way to get new UFC Strike Moments is from pack drops. Similar to opening a pack of real cards, you have a chance to get rare Moments when you open a pack.

So far, Strike has gotten off to a slow start dropping new packs. There have been a few stress tests and one main Series 0 drop as of the writing of this article. Both were a little rocky, but it surely gave the team good data to refine the process and improve it for the next drop.

Users were airdropped a free moment and a $50 Dapper balance credit for each pack as compensation for the drop issues for Series 0 packs. The first packs of Series 1 are dropping on March 22 and March 24.

In the first drop, packs cost $50 and contain three Moments with a small chance at pulling a Champion Tier moment. In the first round of packs the chance to pull a Champion Tier was 3.75 percent.

Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya was given away to all users who had $500 or more spent in the marketplace. This Moment kicked off Series 1 for UFC Strike, with only about 2,000 minted after the challenge.

UFC Strike Marketplace

The UFC Strike Marketplace is up and running after the platform initially launched without it. You can filter by fighters, Moments, and see live listings for the UFC Strike marketplace on MomentRanks.

You can buy and sell UFC Moments in US Dollars, using a credit or debit card, the same as with other Dapper Labs products like NBA Top Shot. Your Dapper balance deposited in your Dapper Wallet carries over between Dapper’s platforms, making it easy to buy Strike Moments if you have some funds sitting in there from sales on NBA Top Shot.

The marketplace itself leaves a lot to be desired at this stage, as there isn’t a ton of info about each Moment. I’m sure it will improve greatly in the future, but right now it looks like a high school HTML computer class project. That being said, it’s better than nothing and is easy enough to navigate with some basic filters.

You can see the full UFC Strike Marketplace with the latest listings on MomentRanks.

What’s Next for UFC Strike?

In a recent blog, Dapper outlined their general plans moving forward for UFC Strike:

  • Regular Pack Drops (Series 1 soon)
  • New Moments from UFC’s past and present
  • More Athlete Integrations & Partnerships
  • Benefits for UFC Moment holders

As an avid UFC fan, I hope that the platform continues to improve and involve the fighters creating these highlight Moments. UFC will continue to regularly promote their NFT platform in their pay-per-view events. I also think that UFC Strike can introduce a lot of people to the sport that haven’t been interested in UFC before.

Someone coming over from Top Shot or All Day could see a few awesome knockouts, watch a couple fights and boom, you’ve got a new fan who never knew they liked UFC.
